What are lab-grown diamonds?

The same diamond – responsibly created

Lab-grown diamonds consist of exactly the same material as mined diamonds – pure carbon in the same crystal structure. Chemically, physically and optically they are indistinguishable from natural diamonds: same hardness, same brilliance, same fire.

The only difference lies in their origin – our diamonds are created in a laboratory under controlled conditions, rather than over billions of years in the earth.

Lab-grown diamonds make it possible to invest in greater clarity and carat weight without compromising on quality. They are conflict-free and free from the ecological impact of traditional diamond mining.

Each of our diamonds is IGI or GIA certified – for full transparency on cut, clarity, colour and carat.

How are they made?

From carbon to diamond

Lab-grown diamonds are created mainly by two processes: HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) uses extreme pressure and heat to replicate natural formation. In CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition), the diamond grows layer by layer from carbon-rich gas.

Both processes take weeks to months – resulting in a diamond of museum quality.

What sets an exceptional diamond apart

The quality of a diamond is assessed worldwide using the “4 C's” – four criteria that together determine a stone's brilliance, clarity and value:

Cut – largely determines the diamond's sparkle. A precise cut directs light optimally through the stone and creates its characteristic fire.

Color – the more colourless a diamond, the more valuable. Our stones consistently meet colour grade D – the highest, virtually colourless class.

Clarity – describes internal and external characteristics of the stone. We use only clarity grade VVS+, where inclusions are barely visible even under magnification.

Carat – the weight of the diamond. At the same carat weight, the visual effect can vary greatly – depending on cut and setting.

Only the interplay of these four factors produces a diamond that truly convinces – and that is exactly what we look for in every stone we select for Élysée.

Certification

Independently tested, transparently documented

Every Élysée diamond from 0.30 carat is certified by IGI (International Gemological Institute) or GIA (Gemological Institute of America) – two of the world's most respected independent diamond grading laboratories.

The certificate documents the cut, colour, clarity and carat weight of your diamond and accompanies every ring. So you know exactly what you're wearing – proven and verifiable, not just promised.
